Requirements to enrol on any of the programmes

The minimum requirements for most of the programmes is the ability to read and write. For most of the qualifications grade 12 is required and also a learner 's previuos learning will be considered.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Further Education and Training Certificate: New Venture Creation (66249) L4

    The purpose of the Qualification is to develop the appropriate skills and knowledge required by a person for the establishment and development of a small to medium business venture, and address the economic, administrative and behavioural (psycho-social) barriers that contribute to success in starting and sustaining the venture.


    This qualification is intended for persons who wish to start, operate, manage and grow a new small to medium business venture. Learners attempting this qualification will be equipped with a variety of technical, business managerial and personal skills and strategies to help them succeed in the creation and sustenance of a business. The successful learner will develop a sound foundation for the application of these skills and knowledge to explore a diverse range of entrepreneurial opportunities.


    Recipients of this qualification will be able to:

    Demonstrate an ability to identify and create a new venture.

    Demonstrate knowledge of interpersonal skills required in a business environment.

    • Demonstrate an understanding of basic economics within an market economy.
    • Manage a new venture by applying business principles and techniques.

  • General Education and Training Certificate: Business Practice (61755) L1

    This General Education and Training Certificate: Business Practice is for utilisation by all members of the population. Anyone preparing to become employed, or self-employed, in any business whatsoever would be the persons most likely to be attracted to this qualification. In fact many newly (or not-so-newly) appointed personnel, or struggling entrepreneurs, could benefit from part or all of this qualification. It seeks to embed the six key literacies required by business organisations: Numeracy, Literacy, Entrepreneurial, Financial, Technological and Cognitive.


    The GETC: Business Practice integrates the literacies into one qualification while also allowing each to be addressed separately in short courses and skills programmes, based on the constituent unit standards.


    Furthermore, this Certificate allows a seamless movement into the New Venture Creation learning way, thus providing bridging between South Africa's First and second Economies.

  • Further Education and Training Certificate: Business Administration Services(61595) L4

    This Qualification is for any individual who is or wishes to be involved in the Administration function within any industry, or non-commercial venture/organization. It is also the building block to advance the learner into the National Certificate in Business Administration Services: NQF Level 5.


    The Core Component of the Qualification offers the learner knowledge and skills in the Management of Records, Comprehension of written and verbal texts, Business Writing, Problem Solving, Ethics, Cultural Awareness, Self Management and Self Development, Project Teamwork and Business Policies and Procedures. The Qualification through its Elective Component enables the learner to specialize in areas of Administration such as Reception, Executive Administration, Financial Literacy, Relationship Management, Legal Knowledge, Communication, Project Administration and Support, Call Centre Administration and Human Resources.

  • General Education and Training Certificate: Hygiene and Cleaning (57937) L1

    The primary purpose of this qualification is to develop in a learner, the foundational, practical and reflexive competencies required for a career in the Hygiene & Cleaning Services Industry.


    Central to the qualification is the development of a culture of quality service and professionalism in a cleaning services environment. This qualification intends to produce cleaners who can find gainful employment in the cleaning industry.


    This qualification will enable learners to access learning in a related field (e.g. Hospitality, Health Care, Wholesale and Retail, Food Production or Manufacturing etc), or a related branch of cleaning (e.g. Industrial, Hospital, Car Wash, Dry Cleaning and Laundry, Garden Services, Aircraft Cleaning or Textile Cleaning etc.).

    This qualification is designed as the first qualification in the learning pathway in the cleaning sector and is suited to the following occupations:

    • Cleaner.
    • Laundry assistant.
    • Car wash attendant.
    • Garden services.
    • Relief cleaner.
    • Room attendants.
    • Ward hostess.
    • Domestic worker.

  • Further Education and Training Certificate: Beauty and Nail Technology (80646) L4

    The purpose of the Further Education and Training Certificate: Beauty and Nail Technology is to develop the self-directed skills and knowledge of those employed in the beauty industry as nail technologists, beautician or make-up artists. It is designed for people who wish to extend their range of skills and knowledge of the industry and those wishing to follow a career in beauty industry. The qualification is aimed at developing the necessary task skills, task management skills and job/role management skills of those working or intending to work in the beauty industry. The learners will be able to integrate the generic salon requisite skills, knowledge, values and attitudes with those specific to the beauty industry, ensuring the business in which they operate runs smoothly and offers excellent customer service according to industry standards.


    This qualification is awarded to people who have demonstrated the relevant skills and knowledge required to perform a range of beauty services at a basic level within the salon environment. It will lead to entrepreneurial opportunities for learners already operating or joining this profession and enhance the self-image of each individual learner as he/she becomes more professional. Holders of this qualification are able to conduct the prescribed beauty service in a professional manner, and maintain service excellence in all their operations.


    The Further Education and Training Certificate: Beauty and Nail Technology is flexible enough to be offered in formal education for those not in employment and as well as in an occupationally directed workplace for learners already employed in the beauty industry.


    On achieving this qualification, the learner will be able to:

    • Set up a salon business.
    • Coordinate and perform a salon service.
    • Perform beauty services.

    • Perform nail services.
  • National Certificate: Labour Relations Practice (93993) L5

    This Qualification is the second step in a learning pathway that underpins a career in the Labour Relations arena. A large number of the competencies developed in the Qualification are rooted in actual workplace practice and should lead to greater productivity resulting from the improved performance by the learner, due to the integration of the knowledge mastered with workplace practice.


    Many different roles and careers are linked to and affected by this Qualification. They include but are not limited to:

    The primary purpose of this qualification is to develop competencies in a learner as required for a career in the Domestic Services Industry.


    The qualification is aimed at:


    • Raising the self esteem, personal growth and income of domestic workers
    • Creating new learning and career paths and progression opportunities for domestic workers, either as employees or through starting their own businesses
    • Improving the support systems available to employers in their households
    • Achieving recognition for the contribution of domestic services to the economy
    • Improving domestic services within homes and communities
    • Formalising the domestic services industry
    • Increasing employment opportunities for the unemployed and new entrants into the labour market
  • Further Education and Training Certificate: Real Estate (59097) L4

    This Qualification is for any individual who is, or wishes to be involved in the property and real estate industry. It serves to support and advance the functioning of individuals in this industry. The attainment of the Qualification represents the prerequisite for admission to the professional examination for estate agents, to be conducted by the Estate Agency Affairs Board, the successful completion of which will entitle the candidate to be registered as a non-principal estate agent by the Estate Agency Affairs Board.


    A learner will be able to complete the Qualification with a specialisation in Real Estate or Valuation. The core unit standards are relevant to each area of specialisation.

  • National Certificate : Real Estate (20188) L5

    This Qualification is for any individual who is, or wishes to be involved in the property and real estate industry. It serves to support and advance the functioning of individuals in this industry. This Qualification will be registered at NQF Level 5. A learner can complete the Qualification with a specialisation in Property Management, Real Estate or Valuation. The core Unit Standards are relevant to each area of specialisation.

    Learners working towards this Qualification will find that the acquisition of competence in the Unit Standards that comprise the Qualification will add value to their understanding of the sector and functioning in the workplace. This Qualification is intended to build on the skills gained in the level 4 Qualification. It will provide for consolidation of the broad knowledge, skills and values needed in the property and real estate industry.



  • National Certificate: Ward Committee Governance (57823) L2

    The purpose of the qualification is to enable qualifying learners to apply the relevant competences required for proactive participation as a Ward Committee member so that they achieve municipal objectives.


    The learning outcomes contained in this qualification are based on the competencies required to contribute to the effectiveness of municipal processes from a Ward Committee perspective. These competences relate to:

    • Conducting or participating in formal and informal meetings to achieve Ward Committee objectives.
    • Involvement in and giving advice on municipal projects.
    • Assisting in implementing municipal objectives and overall objectives of Local Government by displaying an understanding of core municipal functions as they relate to a Ward Committee context.
    • Facilitating relations between Local Government and citizens to effectively support the implementation of its objectives.
    • Facilitating service delivery in a Ward Committee context.
  • Further Education and Training Certificate: Municipal Finance and Administration (50372) L4

    The purpose of the FETC Municipal Finance and Administration Qualification at Level 4 is to provide a structured programme for municipal officials that work with senior management officials so as to provide support to strategic leadership and management needed to transform all spheres of government. The need for well-qualified efficient, client-oriented public officials is therefore identified as a priority in all the three spheres of government. The FETC: Municipal Finance and Administration is aimed at practitioners working in or wishing to work in the Municipal sector. It is a Qualification in a career pathway towards an accomplished municipal financial management specialist.


    The FETC in Municipal Finance and Administration, consists of exit level learning outcomes, covering municipal accounting, administration, budgeting, computing, quantitative calculations, human resource management and legislative framework for the public sector. The competencies covered in the proposed unit standards encapsulate the competencies required by public officials working at the operational level (technical support staff in municipalities).

  • National Certificate: Specialist Hygiene and Cleaning Services(36233)

    The primary purpose of this Qualification is to develop the foundational, practical and reflexive competencies in an individual, required for a career in the Hygiene and Cleaning Services Industry and to positively impact on social and economic transformation.

    Central to the Qualification is the development of a culture of quality service and professionalism in the Hygiene and Cleaning Services Industry. This Qualification intends to produce employable cleaners/team leaders who can find gainful employment in the cleaning industry. This will also achieve the objectives of the NQF.

  • National Certificate: Hygiene and Cleaning Supervision(20175)

    The contextualized purpose of this Qualification is to maintain the foundational, practical and reflexive competencies in an individual, required for a career in the Hygiene & Cleaning Services Industry, which will positively impact on the National social and economic transformation.


    Central to the Qualification is the enhancement, implementation and maintenance of quality service and professionalism in the Hygiene and Cleaning Services Industry. This Qualification intends to provide skilled supervisors who can sustain gainful employment and deliver qualitative and quantative results within an organization.
